BZ Bookkeeping

Bookkeeping that stays current.

We do monthly bookkeeping for small businesses in New Jersey. Transactions get categorized as they come in, so your books are close to current on any given day — not rebuilt from a shoebox next April.

Talk to us

A two-person firm. You’ll always be dealing with an owner.

What we do

Monthly bookkeeping. Every month, on a schedule:

  • Bank and credit card activity categorized and reconciled
  • Every account tied out to its statement — no unexplained balances
  • Financial statements: profit & loss, balance sheet, cash flow
  • A short plain-English note on anything that looks off or needs a decision from you
  • Books kept in a state you can hand to your tax preparer without apologizing

Catch-up work. Behind by a few months, or a few years? We’ll get it caught up and reconciled before the monthly work starts. Messy is normal; we’d rather see it than not.

Who it’s for

Owner-operated businesses — roughly one to twenty people — where the owner actually wants to look at the numbers. Trades and contractors, service businesses, real estate and rentals, e-commerce, small professional practices.

It’s a good fit if:

  • You want to check a number mid-month instead of waiting for a year-end packet
  • Your books are behind, or you're not confident they're right
  • You're doing it yourself and it's the thing you keep pushing to Sunday night

It’s not a fit if you need audited or reviewed financial statements, a full-time controller or CFO, or inventory-heavy manufacturing accounting.

How it works

  1. 1

    Connect your accounts

You link your bank and credit cards through a read-only connection. We can see transactions. We cannot move money, and we never hold your banking login.

  2. 2

    We keep the books current

Transactions arrive on their own and get categorized automatically. We built the tooling that handles the repetitive part, so the data entry isn't happening by hand at 11pm on the last day of the month. A bookkeeper reviews every exception: anything unusual, anything ambiguous, anything involving your own money moving in or out.

  3. 3

    Monthly financials

At month end we reconcile every account, close the month, and send you your statements with a short summary and any questions we need you to answer.

Your books stay yours

Your general ledger lives in a QuickBooks Online account in your own name. Our software feeds it and keeps it reconciled — but the books themselves are always yours. If you ever leave, you keep QuickBooks and everything in it, and we hand off cleanly. None of your accounting history is locked up with us.

What we don’t do

We're bookkeepers, not CPAs.
BZ Bookkeeping is not a CPA firm, and no one here is a licensed CPA or enrolled agent.
We don't prepare or file tax returns, and we don't give tax advice.
What we do is keep your books accurate and organized so your tax preparer's job is short and cheap. At year-end we'll work with them directly if you'd like.
We don't audit or review financial statements.
If a bank or investor needs attested financials, you need a CPA, and we'll tell you that.
We don’t sell you "AI."
We use software we built to eliminate data entry. A human bookkeeper is accountable for your books. That's the whole trick.

Who we are

Two owners, fifty-fifty. Small on purpose.

Morrisbookkeeping

Morris does the accounting work: reviews the exceptions, closes each month, and is responsible for whether your books are right. He's a working bookkeeper — this is his actual trade, not a side interest.

Raysoftware

Ray builds the system that pulls transactions in and flags the ones a human needs to look at, and handles the technical setup for each client.

We started BZ Bookkeeping because most small-business books get reconstructed once a year, under deadline, from incomplete records — and it doesn’t have to work that way.

Getting started

$500$0

One-time setup and cleanup — waived right now. However far behind you are, we’ll get you caught up and reconciled before monthly work begins.

Monthly bookkeeping is quoted per business. We haven’t published a number because it depends on transaction volume and how far behind you are, and we’d rather look at your books first and quote you something honest.
